Donate a Hay Bale

“In order to rise from its own ashes, a phoenix first must burn.” ~ Octavia Butler

The incredible journey of all the farm animals, that call Freedom Hill Sanctuary home starts when we rescue them, some are newborn, some older, some with disabilities but all have come from unfortunate circumstances, that without Freedom Hill Sanctuary they would not have a full and happy life.

As you can imagine the absolute horror that we experienced on Friday 20th December, 2019 when the Cudlee Creek fire was announced out of control and heading toward the township of Harrogate.

With extreme heat and winds the fire quickly engulfed Harrogate and surrounding townships.  Our emergency plan was a success and all animal residents survived what could have been the unimaginable.

Drought conditions for the past two years, have increasingly put a strain on us to source good quality hay for the animals and with this shortage we have been forced to pay double the price we would normally purchase in non drought conditions with our yearly supply of large hay bales being 250 per year.

This season 2019/20 we had been able to secure over 100 bales of hay thus taking some pressure of a constant worry until the fire swept through Harrogate taking with it all our promised supply of hay.

John McKew from the Australian Fodder Association stated ‘potentially late March/ April we are going to find the supply situation extraordinarily tight I believe’

Urgent hay purchase frenzy, has caused farmers into panic buying to guarantee their supply.

We are asking you to help Freedom Hill Sanctuary in securing and purchasing hay bales immediately to get us through the next twelve months.

A donation of $100 would secure one hay bale at current prices.

Thank you from all the animal residents at Freedom Hill Sanctuary. x
